Of course they are, they’re all Nazis too.

“Kids do stupid things,” he continued. “Especially young boys. They tell edgy, offensive jokes. That’s what kids do.”

I was a young, stupid, conservative boy. Most of my jokes were Strong Bad related. I didn’t at any time glorify Hitler.

These kids need an intervention, not apologia.

I did. I said all sorts of offensive shit with varying degrees of understanding how offensive. HOWEVER, that does not mean I didn’t expect and face accountability for my actions. That’s part of it. That’s how dumb young men grow into sane, understanding, and well adjusted people. We fuck up, we learn, we improve.

Yeah I said all sorts of shit I never believed. Felt like none of it mattered and racism wasn’t real etc etc because I was a dumb privileged kid. Once I talked to people different than me and thought for like forty seconds I realized how stupid I was and how I’d been getting sucked down a right wing rabbit hole.

None of it excuses my actions and these dumb young Republicans are actively trying to enforce their racist beliefs.

Did you do it on a recorded medium, so everyone would find out, all while having political leadership aspirations?

I grew up progressive and we said all the dumb racist shit too. And then my mom beat the shit out of me in front of the neighborhood as a small child. I didn’t say racist shit after that. Pretty sure nobody did. I lived in a place where “you see what happens??” was common parenting. One to many public beatings and we all learned to stfu and know our role.

My teenage friends and I were edgy to well past the point of being vile. The only one of us making “Hitler was right” jokes was a Jew who was complaining about his parents and we always told him to shut the fuck up.

I did. All my friends and I were a bunch of edge lords with upper middle class/old money backgrounds. We never said that shit in front of any adults though because back then it was still a bad thing to do at all. However, I grew out of it and they never did…

True, but I will say this, it doesn’t matter how old any of them are or even if they fought in WW2; many of them still held very shitty views of anyone that was poor or not white. Most of the people in power during the Civil Rights movement were WW2 vets and they did not stop being racist after defeating fascism.

You are not wrong at all. Sadly though, when Communism became the head issue, most anti-fascist rhetoric and ideas went out the window including actually punishing all former Nazis.

These are the same people who argue that spanking kids is necessary to correct them. It’s interesting how selective they are about punishing certain things.

For me my friends and I joke about everything except stuff like pedophilia. In our minds with how shit the world is we are just like “guess we’ll just laugh at everything” cuz we’d rather laugh and feel happy than be saddened or bad with everything else going on. And I personally think it’s ok to do that and joke about hitler type stuff but not if you’re someone who is in office you have a diff standard to uphold than people like my friends a I.

We just love dark fucked up humor

So something to consider is if you keep making those jokes you will unconsciously start to internalize it. If not you then one of your friends. It’s just how brains work.

I sarcastically make fucked up jokes with my friends too but only ones I know already don’t hold those positions and only when it’s clear that we are being sarcastic or pretending to be dumb fucks.
