I’m in Europe. Apologies if I misread your post. I guess you could be something other than a Republican for the Dems to have to win you back. From over here though, it looks like Americans only have 2 choices, red or blue.

      2 choices, red or blue.

There are many Independents in America, we are 40% of the registered voters (Ds and Rs are 30% each; Bernie Sanders is an Independent, for example). There are only a few in office.

With elections, you MUST win independent votes in addition to your own party’s votes. Even if all of your own party shows up to vote, the independents are required to win.

But, the more independent you are, the less the major parties think of you. This is why Sanders was robbed of the D nomination, it’s a private organization that OPPOSES what most people want.

About 70% of people in the USA want universal health care. It doesn’t matter.

The same think wages should be much higher, with higher corporate and billionaire taxes. It doesn’t matter.

The same think we should stop financing Israel and reduce our military significantly. It doesn’t matter.

… and so on. The more independent any candidate is, the more they RESEMBLE American voters as a whole, the less likely they are to be a major party candidate. The majors SUPPRESS American will, and have for some time.

They are paid well to do so. Dollars are “free speech” and corporations are considered to be people.

It’s quite a pickle. The beast won’t fix itself.

When it comes to the presidential elections, why do so many independent voters change to voting blue or red. Is there no independent candidate that this 40% can vote for?

Tbh, your entire system looks terrible from here. Always going to end up polarising people, instead of representing them.

That’s exactly why a lot of people here don’t vote, we are disillusioned by the two party system. When your vote is either to send more money to Israel (D) or send more money to Israel ® you really don’t have an option.
