Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer are doing incalculable damage to Democratic party unity by not enforcing their party’s candidate for NYC mayor.

It doesn’t even matter at this point if Mamdami loses – any call by either “leader” for party unity will be met with “you didn’t endorse Mamdami, why should we endorse your pick” by anyone to their left, forever.

This. And they’ve been saying the quiet parts out loud for a substantial period of time.

Their jobs aren’t to win elections or support the mandate of their voters: their jobs are to keep the party pro-zionist and pro-billionaire. The problem? Democrats can’t win elections as a pro-billionaire pro-zionist party.

Their jobs are to lose elections so the Democrats can keep fundraising. It’s a feature, not a bug

Especially true for the two of them, who in addition to being New Yorkers are part of leadership, which would be great for unifying both sides of the party. I’m half surprised Chuck hasn’t endorsed Cuomo at this point in a ‘return to normalcy’ or some nonsense.

They are doing damage from your POV but maybe they are doing what is expected from them (keeping the status quo).

No status quo is being kept regardless of what these fossils do.

The winds of change are blowing through the country: hot, stinky change.

The dems are not a monolith nor a cult. People can and should be able to endorse whoever they want, that freedom of choice is essential in a democracy.

Just like it’s your freedom to note those who don’t endorse Mamdani and vote against them.
