The money isn’t the whole point. It’s also about control and emotions. Management wants to feel a way and they’ll pay for it. And/or make you pay for it

One of the problems is some poor people (eg: many whites) would rather die than other poor people (eg: black folks) get anything at all.

may genuinely be unskilled when it comes to computers in general.
I do not accept this idea that people are so unskilled at computers they can’t install Linux, and are so immutably so they can’t get better.
Like yeah sometimes you have to ask for help or watch a YouTube video. That shit’s free and right there.

Early voting is open in NYC. Voting isn’t the only thing you should do, but it’s fast and easy. No line at my polling place down the street.

A friend of mine was sincerely advancing the idea that it’s better that trump wins, because less-bad candidates like Harris just let people coast by without doing much as the world gets worse. He thinks something like Trump will be really bad, and people will demand more radical change. I think you can call that acellerationism. Pretty easy position to hold as a wealthy professional who owns property, I guess.
Personally, I’d rather people organize and try to make the world better without the worst people in the world having most of the power. Seems easier that way to me.

Fuck. Add me to the list of people who were fooled until the last sentence, and even then I had to read it twice.

I think calling it “Alligator Auschwitz” would be more effective, except one of my old coworkers sincerely asked me “What’s Auschwitz?”

On the one hand, maybe. On the other, many states (mostly red ones) are also cruel and incompetent.
Also, the federal government has vastly more funding power than the state government.
If you have a machine that runs Windows and the hardware is still good,
Linux is often more forgiving on hardware requirements. I recently put Mint (with xfce) on a like 2013 laptop and it’s fine. That’s not even an especially lightweight distribution.

It’s the thing conservatives do. They just say stuff for effect and don’t care about truth or consistency.
The Constitution is a perfect document that must be upheld when it suits their goals, and a living document that must be updated when that suits their goals instead. They are liars. They should not be accepted in polite society.

Labor should organize and tell management if they don’t get their heads out of their asses they might lose them.

Thinking about the pedocon theory post again : https://www.liberalcurrents.com/we-need-to-talk-about-pedocon-theory/

Google is complicit

is it doesn’t address the issue of youth access to porn. I think any semi-intelligent person knows this is a parenting issue
There sure are a lot of stupid fucking people then, huh?
Unfortunately this is becoming enough of “A Thing” that the left is going to have to, once again, be seen doing “something”
Personally I think the left should hammer in on “The right are too lazy and incompetent to raise their kids. They want the government to do it for them. No one who’s too unwilling or unable to spend time with their kids should be in government” or something like that. Just rub their noses in how stupid, lazy, and incompetent, the right is. Because they are. They are the worst people.

I think installing Linux exposes you to higher severity issues, like “now it won’t boot”. Once you get over that initial setup, it’s not much different than windows or apple.
If more computers came with it pre installed, it would be even easier for folks.
I think about half the time I’ve installed Linux it was fine. The other half were problems with esoteric solutions.
Still glad I made the switch.

Linux doesn’t really have the profit motives that lead to enshittification.
I guess a bigger entity could try to start charging for… something… Support, maybe, but that seems unlikely to take off.

There’s a kind of person where emotions create reality. They feel a thing, and will use any facts at hand to justify it. Later if they feel something else, different facts will be used.
These people are trash, honestly. That’s a garbage way to live. It’s dishonest and hurtful. It’s immature. It’s a lot of conservatives.

It’s striking how little many people know about history and politics, but more concerning is how little they care. My old coworkers just don’t seem to care much. And they won’t even feel shame because their only priority seems to be protecting their ego.
Reminds me of Brent from The Good Place, honestly. “No. No. I’m a good person. I’m a good person!!”

Interesting idea. I know at least one of them is dating a Google employee who, from what I can tell, is rather “apolitical”. I don’t know about the others, though.
Time to repeat my topical story.
I worked for a startup that prided itself on being “data driven”. They’d talk about how other startups were doing stupid things because they followed their feelings instead of data.
One day in one of those all hands meetings, the CEO was taking questions. Someone said, “Studies are showing that four day work weeks are more effective on like every metric. Can we look into that?”
The CEO said "No, we’re not doing that ". Didn’t read the linked studies. Didn’t entertain it at all. His mind was made up, and the data was irrelevant.
Because he doesn’t really care about data. He cares about feeling smart and irreverent. He cares about being seen as a cool disruptive startup guy who’s going to grind his way to success.
The dishonesty makes me want to puke.
But you know what also makes me sick? All the sycophantic boot lickers that would gather round and tell him his every idea was great. The people who would work unpaid long hours to “get shit done”. Bunch of fucking wormtongues who would sell out their coworkers for crumbs.
Maybe he was a real person once who really did care about data. But by the time I met him, he was an empty suit
