That uses POW which wastes time and CPU, however it does essentially nothing to stop bots, it just makes them slower.
You need to detect the fingerprints of things like Selenium and Multilogin as well as the fingerprint of the whole browser or device to truly stop them.
Passkeys and hardware attestation are also good as they require a fingerprint or face and bare metal hardware instead of a VM, but Spez also wants to introduce things like the Worldcoin Orb and IDs as well which are too invasive IMO.
There is a bot problem but ID checks are invasive, and you can stop the bots with things like Hcaptcha Passive and Turnstile which use POW to waste the CPU cycles of bots and look for signs of things like Selenium and Puppeteer controlling the browser.
Worldcoin requires you to use their Orb device to sign up, and you can buy a verified account for $20.

Other ROMs are usually very bad at security with many being late to secuity updates, not supporting bootloader relocking, and not using the secure element. I would not trust them in the hands of someone who isn’t tech savvy or is at high risk of hackers.

To stop scams, it would instead be a good idea to block app installation (of ANY apps including in the Play Store) when the screen is being monitored or a call is active.
Then when sideloading apps, grey out the install button for 3 seconds to hopefully pull the user out of any mindless flow state a scammer has put them in.
The solution is GrapheneOS. You can install it on Google Pixels today, and Motorola is going to release some devices with official support for it in 2027.

It would be nice to see web filtering as part of it. A DNS like 1.1.1.3 can easily be bypassed.
