        We can’t acknowledge the whole country was racist in in the 1800s? the country kept black people as slaves. All kinds of industry in the north benefited from the materials produced by slavery even though they didn’t personally own the slaves

          Lincoln himself said if allowing slavery would preserve the union, he would do it.

      How is that a spoiler? It was over 150 years ago.

      Also I’m not sure what you think people are supposed to take from that.

      The thing about the north that I’ve learned that surprised me is how many abolitionists held that belief because they didn’t want black and white people living together. They wanted an ethnostate.

        Yeah, there was a whole movement to get them to move to what is now Liberia (or Haiti, or Panama). Even Lincoln supported the idea. Although, he did eventually abandon the idea due to, among other complications, his refusal to implement any plan that made it compulsory, so… at least there’s that?
