I’m in the local SEIU. We voted to approve a great new contract they won for us, granting us raises for the next 3 years, more towards our health insurance, and a sweet new longevity bonus. We went right from the vote to the No Kings protest.

I heard someone make a good, frightening point. Trump has been a political force for over a decade now. There are a generation of young people who only know MAGA politics. To them that is normal. They’ve never seen a functional government in their adult lives.
Not to mention that it is about 2000 miles by sea from Venezuela to the US and there is no fucking way a speed boat has large enough fuel tanks for that. It’s a blatant lie that these boats are headed for US ports.
The situation is dire either way.

The company that makes the pepper balls ICE is using on journalists and protestors is based on Lake Forest. Maybe they deserve some protestors in front of their building.
Pritzker needs to deploy the state guard to police ICE. Resisting federal overreach is exactly why they were created.
The will of citizens comes second to the rights of all people. It wouldn’t matter if 90% of the country wanted this. It would still be an unconstitutional infringement of rights.
America was started by ignorant people with poor diets. Their diets were mostly salt pork and beer, their cutlery was loaded with lead, and they drank mercury as a cure-all.
What we have now is worse. They aren’t just poorly educated, but intentionally miseducated. A huge portion of the population are operating in a false reality based on lies.
Nobody was flying George Bush flags on their pickup trucks though. He didn’t have the same cult of personality.

The justice system, from the government perspective, is primarily a guard against vigilantism. Once enough people lose faith in the justice system’s ability to enforce the law with at least some degree of honesty and fairness, then the only option people see is to take justice into their own hands.
I’m willing to bet Vance doesn’t get the blind worship that Trump gets from his followers.
