The recent death of a Costa Rican man who was jailed by US immigration authorities in February before being deported in a vegetative state in September has prompted his family and supporters to speak out with allegations of negligence and inhumane treatment.

    Stricken with encephalopathy, the muscle ailment rhabdomyolysis and the inability to eat on his own

    That is absolutely not any normal ailment. While it’s possible it was due to an infection, it makes me very suspicious about how he got infected in the first place, and with what. But more likely is physical trauma, such as beatings or other abuse.

    The buried lede is that he entered the vegetative state while in ICE custody. What did they do to him to cause the “unspecified psychosis?”

    He was not arrested in a vegatative state. Its possible he simply got an infection and was not given normal treatment for it.
