“Generic Democrat” always does better in polls than any “Actual Democrat”. Dem voters conduct annoying purity tests on most candidates and love to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in order to feel good about themselves.

Anyone who uses the phrase “purity test” has completely failed to grasp the situation. It has nothing to do with purity tests, and the phrase is itself a cultural smear used by establishment Democrats against progressives.

There is no minor nitpicking going on of one issue here or there. There is a gaping divide in the party between the corporate establishment and the vast majority of the Democratic base.

I have found a lot of people unnecessarily internalize propaganda. Purity tests, wokeness, white knighting, bleeding heart, etc are all terms that are meant to disparage people. Unfortunately, because of the ubiquitous nature of these words and phrases the people who they are meant to disparage adopt these terms themselves to their detriment.

I personally don’t think people should use these terms at all as they just give credence to those who use them to discredit people who are actually doing their best to make things right. These terms are beyond cynical and are actually very misanthropic in nature.
