A Republican congressman has called out the Trump administration for cutting the 988 National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline service tailored to LGBTQ+ youth.
“This is wrong,” Representative Mike Lawler of New York wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
“According to studies, LGBTQ+ young people have an elevated risk of suicide and are more likely than their peers to attempt it. We should ensure they have the resources necessary to get help. The 988 hotline has been a lifesaver. This decision should be reversed.”
This is your party, dude. Cruelty is the point. If you are waking up to that just now, you may want to GTFO now.
“This is wrong” says man who will continue to do nothing but support the policies that will cripple and kill his constituents.
Mike’s district is Rockland and Putnam counties, technically “upstate” by my definition (as most of it is north of the Tappan Zee) but still very much influenced by NYC. He managed to hold on to this district by a few percentage points even while it just barely went for Harris in the last Presidential Election.
He knows he has a problem whatever he does; there aren’t enough MAGAs there to justify going full MAGA yet if he pulls toward the center, he knows there are an army of J6ers and others out there who are armed, know his home address, and know this President has their back. He also knows that every single DNC list to take back the House has this seat near the top of vulnerable seats.
So it’s good to see at least one Republican talk about LBGTQ+ as if they are people and not monsters. Let’s see if his votes match his talk.

I’m a Log Cabin Republican and I’m OK with this because GAY KIDS THAT WANT TO KILL THEMSELVES should pick up Their Bootstraps and Get To Work! And if a Couple Die WHO CARES they’re GAY! And to Reiterate I’m a LOG CABIN REPUBLICAN!
What a pro-life thing to do.
Starting next month, bootstraps will be dispensed to distressed youth so they can practice pulling on them.
Republican policy is all about killing anyone who isn’t young, fit, and productive. And it’s working.
That’s called Eugenics.
