Federal elections here are on a set schedule, there’s no concept of a “snap” election here. The closest thing is if a Congressional seat goes vacant, they need to schedule a special election just for that seat before it can be filled.

In theory, we prevent kings here by allocating distinct powers to distinct branches of government. The problem occurs when those branches stop using the oversight powers the Constitution gives them. The American President can rule like a king – if Congress and the Courts let him.

But that’s what he does, he pushes the boundaries until he finds resistance, pulls back, then tries again later. If it weren’t for the court rulings against him he probably would have gone full “Marshal Law” already.

Also note that many of those rulings came from lower courts, some got partially reversed at the appellate level, and others got temporarily reversed at the emergency level at SCOTUS. At some point, SCOTUS will make the official rulings, on the record. That’s when the real shit will go down. There are three ways it can go down:

• a full repudiation of the Adminstrations’s position. Not very likely, given this court.
• a full embracing of the administration’s position. This would be the point historians point to when American democracy died.
• a narrow ruling against the administration, which the court takes great pains to imply doesn’t set a larger precedent. Don’t believe them! This will be identical to the one above.

Once this happens, no matter what the ruling is, the Administration will claim it as a victory and go full dictatorship. The nature of the ruling will dictate what institutions can do to counter it.

Exactly, you get it. There are a bunch of people running around who got a cheat code for life-changing amounts of untraceable* money. They did nothing more than run the right software at the right time, but they think that makes them geniuses. They are pouring it into this administration right now, because our President has made it clear that he is for sale to the highest bidder.

* = yeah, I know BTC really is traceable, its security is in the math of large numbers. But anyone dabbling in BTC that early is at least smart enough to know how to maintain their anomymity.

It’s the Binance guy who just got pardoned, he has enough crypto that $130M is a rounding error. It could also be the Silk Road guy, but I’m not sure how much he has left after the bulk of it got seized years ago.
