Signal Stories gets so much hate (and I don’t really like it either) but it’s the only form of private social media.

This is “innovation” these days. Just taking what others have found success in and adding it to your platform.

I’m saying the site not working is likely unintentional, and the result of some sort of technical error.

So because crypto has been used for scams, no one should use it or support someone who accepts it?

No because it’s used almost exclusively in scams. Also because of the insane environmental impact.

I’ll say the same thing about platforms like Zelle or wire transfers. If someone asks you for them, it’s almost certainly a scam.

Crypto is only rife with scum because of its privacy.

Definitely a lot more than that should be tested before declaring they’re “ditching Tor”. If that’s what they were doing this site wouldn’t even exist.

What would you use instead?

LiberaPay? Kofi? Givebutter?

There are lots of other private ways to donate that don’t involve scams.

Its also rife with scams and incredibly volatile.

Use an email alias. Domains are not connected to you. Shared with thousands of other people.

I don’t know that anyone has collected any sort of data on reliability. I have a CWWK board that’s been working well for about a year now.
