From my interactions with leftists, they think that the Nazis’ only crime was wearing the wrong uniform. The oppression, tyranny and murder? Totally okay. They were just wearing the wrong symbols while they did it.

Their rhetoric was that they’d target the secret cabal controlling the banking system. Their actions were to subjugate the vulnerable, but that’s exactly what socialist governments do, too.

After spending a couple of years on Lemmy and hearing actual socialist rhetoric, I can see why people would conflate the two.

America’s pre-Trump position was due to them being the only major power left standing after World War II. After the rest of the world rebuilt, it maintained its dominant position mostly through inertia. The damage Trump is doing will never be undone, because the status quo that he’s destroying didn’t come about naturally; they were the result of very specific circumstances that aren’t going to repeat (I mean, a global war might, but not one that leaves the United States unscathed.)
