I mean I would argue the whole system of having to show up in person to a place to vote on a non-holiday day and wait in a long line is in of itself a way to stop poorer people from voting. I’ve lived in a state with only mail in voting for my whole life and as result we have some of the highest voter turn out. It makes sense the Republicans want to do everything they can to to alter that as the harder they make it for poorer people to vote the better their odds of winning are.

I mean at a certain point legality doesn’t matter if they black bag you and deport you before you can even have a trial. Which clearly seems to be their goal by the fact that they move the detainees away from where they apprehend them to avoid the court there being able to have jurisdiction. As well as with the large numbers of people who were put on planes without any kind of trial or process where they can prove they’re there legally. With this becoming the norm at a certain point your only option really is to fight back and resist arrest or be deported without due process.

They do that cause Republicans win the less people are able to vote. When you disenfranchise people who don’t have the time or care to deal with getting an ID you are left with either richer people or older people who both tend to vote Republican. So of course they’re gonna require ID to vote and make it as hard as possible for working people to get a valid ID for voting.

As someone who uses USPS to deliver mail or packages whenever I need to do that it definitely isn’t universally agreed on. It has reasonable prices compared to the other ones and I’ve never had issues with packages taking too long or getting lost.

I mean they basically already do this, my student loan was moved to a private servicer which basically is just a company that collects the money from my loans.

Yeah the problem here though is that Israel is the one with all the power here to stop the violence as they’re the ones forcing people out of their land. I view it in a similar way to what happened in Ireland, if you want to stop the violence you have to make efforts to negotiate a true lasting peace, then whatever groups that are left that still want to commit violence will slowly lose support as the people stop supporting violence with a good peace treaty in place. But instead of doing that Israel is basically using the same argument the US used for why freeing slaves would be bad as in their mind at the time if they freed them the slaves would kill all the white people.

I think that ended with the death of their fascist leader and then a peaceful transition towards democracy. So it can happen but only if your leader dies and the successor wants to reform the country back to democracy.

After 9/11 terrorism gained a much more negative connotation I think. Idk fully about what it was like before since I wasn’t alive but in Deep Space Nine you literally have a character who said she was a terrorist and that’s not really seen as like an inherently evil thing like it would be in the current day. I think people understood the nuance back then that sometimes terrorism ends up being justified when you’re fighting for freedom against an oppressor.

It’s not really competition anymore though, since they often use SpaceX rockets for what they do now.

I mean with the recent stuff going on with them trying to deport someone for the pro-palestine protests I’m just reminded of the quote “Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.”

I think if anything the swing of Gen Z voters shows clearly that his economic recovery clearly wasn’t helping everyone. Those with the least amount of money and no job experience entering the work force found a terrible job market that either was barely hiring or was only hiring people who already had experience. Combine that with high prices and the increased presence of AI in the hiring process and it makes sense Gen Z were upset about the status quo. A lot of people argue that it was the podcasts that made Gen z swing right but if anything I think that just connected Gen z with a message of tearing down the system that they were looking for. But anyways my point is that sure America’s recovery was good for people with wealth or companies but for those either entering the workforce for the first time or those without money saved up and good jobs already there really wasn’t much of a recovery.

I mean I’m pretty sure a bit ago I saw something that leaked from a meeting of Dems about strategy going forward where they were talking about trying to shift more to the right by presenting themselves as more patriotic and pushing for more focus on larger donors rather than lots of small donors which is basically just doubling down on what they just tried. I still have some hope that maybe people get so fed up a Bernie like candidate can win despite major push back from donors and the establishment of the party and shape the party to be more progressive rather than allowing the party apparatus and donors to shape them to be less progressive but if that did happen it would be a bigger upset then what happened with Trump winning and shaping the Republican party into his personal Maga party.

The guard rail should have been prosecuting Trump before he ran again. Or you can have enforcement come from outside the government by having strong unions that can shut down the economy if the government starts breaking the law and doing bad things. There are guard rails that can be put in place to help but the US has very few that are still left trying to hold back the illegal actions.

Yeah the problem there is you’re gonna get horrific working conditions and if you try to speak up about it they’ll call ICE on you and get another immigrant to replace you.

My guess was that it wasn’t boosting Palestinian content but wasn’t suppressing it like a lot of other American platforms and news outlets tended to do.

I think it depends on what problems you’re talking about as well. A lot of the problems I faced with Linux was with programs not working or certain features not being supported. Where as with windows the problems tend to be more of bugs or weird behaviors from the os itself. Sure you can say reinstalling isn’t a good solution as it’s annoying to do but if it makes the problem go away it is a solution. Meanwhile on Linux if a program isn’t supported and isn’t popular enough to have people figure out how to make it work it just doesn’t work and there is no work around other than either trying to figure it out yourself or just using windows. Sure you can maybe argue that that’s an experience difference as if you had experience with getting programs to work the figure it out yourself part wouldn’t be hard but if anything I think that shows that it’s not just a different set of experience but also generally requires more experience to be proficient with Linux versus being proficient with Windows. Although that probably comes down more to what you consider as being proficient.

I mean atleast in terms of the troubleshooting I’ve had to do it’s much easier on Windows. Sure it can be more finicky but if I have a problem 99% of the time I google it and find someone else having the same problem and worst case scenario atleast reinstalling Windows fixes the problem. When I gave Linux a try the amount of times I googled something and either found an out of date solution that didn’t work or was just told that that doesn’t work and you can’t do that was annoying enough that I gave up and went back to Windows. If Linux works for you that’s great but acting like the problems with Linux are just people not being used to it is wrong.

This is why a new party needs to be built from the ground up, starting with local races that are uncontested or use ranked choice voting already.

The problem there is I think the legislature there actually went against the President to stop him. In America the legislature is happy to go along with Trump.
