  • There’s the guy who urges the captain to increase the ship’s speed, so they can arrive a day early and impress everyone that the “unsinkable” ship is also super fast. And then sneaks his way onto a lifeboat at the end, when they’re only supposed to be taking women and children. Arguably a parallel to Musk in that he’s partly responsible for the sinking of the ship.

Much more prominent is Rose’s (Kate Winslet) rich scumbag fiance who refers to Jack (Leo DiCaprio) as a “gutter rat”, responds to “half the people on this ship are going to die” with “not the better half”, tries to bribe with cash one of the men loading boats in order to secure himself a slot, and ultimately manages to get on a boat by picking up a random crying child and claiming it as his own. Much more like Musk himself, but not really a parallel in having resposibility for the ship sinking.

  • I’ve been seeing this headline all week, and didn’t think much of it, since I basically never buy from Amazon. But I’d forgotten they own Twitch. And boy, do I use a lot of Twitch. Unfortunately, in the way of money, it’s pretty much all subscriptions that are already paid for. None of those are coming up for renewal next week, that I could cancel. I could definitely just not watch anything next week, but the union that organized this says they’re looking for drops in sales. Not watching would only contribute to that if I would have been served ads. I’m wondering if I should instead try spread the word of the boycott, in the streams I watch.

I dunno, what do y’all think?

  • Nah, I definitely think it was a ruse, just not this one. What the fuck were they ever gonna DO with 3 million e-mails coming in within a week? Actually analyze them all to idendify each employee’s value? Nonsense.

    A) It was a cheap way to bank an excuse to fire anyone who didn’t respond “for cause” at some later point when they identify people they want to fire, and are looking for cause.

    B) They were planning to feed all the responses into an LLM or something similar. Maybe as a way to look for certain “woke” buzzwords and make a hitlist of people to target for firing.

  • As someone with 0 investment in this whole ecosystem, I saw and perused this article like a week ago, and my immediate impression was “Why is this guy constantly saying ‘Wayland breaks XXXXX’? Wayland isn’t breaking anything, it’s new tech. Wayland has certain features, or it doesn’t or doesn’t yet. The only folks breaking anything are those swapping use of X with Wayland, within various apps or tech stacks, potentially prematurely, where Wayland doesn’t yet have the full set of features needed.”

Whoever this is seems to have a really poor understanding of long-term software development, despite being way more invested in it than I am.
