My pro open-source teacher in HS pushed for all of us to use the handful of Linux computers and recommended GIMP over Photoshop. He even said we can download GIMP at home for free.

Back then, searching for GIMP gave you bondage suits.

And because we were immature fuckwads, we played real hard into that joke, to a point where the principal had to send a letter to parents about how to actually find free open-source software with links.

  • Some people need to be separated. This isn’t about censorship, it’s about group dynamics.

Let’s take it from both angles - just to avoid politics. A disruptive kid in a classroom affects every other kid. Get rid of that kid, and suddenly the whole classroom improves. Everyone can agree to that.

The other side - a company has a pro-union worker. Shitty company doesn’t like not controlling their workers, so they find a way to fire them.

Back to the Nazi, separate them from the rest of society. We don’t need them.

  • I’m laughing way too hard at this.

Honestly this is the best answer.

Like, use the tools that work for your use case?

I fucking hate macs but man using a video editor on windows was a pain back in the day. Where I would rather set up a server on Linux, than use whatever the hell windows servers operate.

  • This is a very rude question, but on this subject of being lean, I looked up your 990, and you pay yourself less than … well, you pay yourself half or a third as much as some of your engineers.

Yes, and our goal is to pay people as close to Silicon Valley’s salaries as possible, so we can recruit very senior people, knowing that we don’t have equity to offer them. We pay engineers very well. [Leans in performatively toward the phone recording the interview.] If anyone’s looking for a job, we pay very, very well.

But you pay yourself pretty modestly in the scheme of things.

I make a very good salary that I’m very happy with.

That’s pretty cool. But knowing the number would matter.
