Maybe I should’ve just shut up and thought for a bit longer before writing that comment…

  • I like that.
As I am not fond of english audiobooks (actually at all) as I am German and need to actively listen to anything I hear (podcasts, movies/shows, audiobooks or dramas) i am usually reliant on the offerings of my library.
Recently I ripped all my “Was ist Was” audiobooks (basically a science show made accessible for ~12 y/o) and really enjoyed those. But they are very specific to the german speaking domain which is already small in comparison to english in the piracy scene.
And I am part of some german sources.

  • Probably a case of hidden infrastructure.
I believe (no source) IONOS solely belongs to 1&1 AG of which ‘United Internet’ has a majority share (that I am sure of).
IONOS = Business focus. Primarily hosting and services
1&1 = End-Consumer focus. Primarily ISP and some other consumer services.

I would assume they count the infrastructure they provide for both 1&1 and IONOS.
Besides that they only have (I think) 2 DCs in Germany and 2 or 3 other locations in the EU and I think 1 in the US.

So in the end I would say it’s either Hetzner or OVH and then IONOS as having the most infrastructure.

  • Bro. Just try it with duplicate files.
You will find out if the pictures don’t load.

As for syncing: I heard some use syncthing for that.
My personal problem with it is, that I can never be sure it’s done with multi device usage as there is no feedback to tell me so.

I am using Obsidian.md both with a remote repository (built-in 1st party paid model) and a community plugin for another repository using remotely-save (which saves it to my personal onedrive folder).
Both options have an indicator that they are done saving.
But with remotely-save I encountered corruption when I turned on my pc which hadnt had connected in a longer time. And remotely-save is configured to stop syncing if >50% of files have been changed.
So now I am running a background task to zip the whole folder and purge the oldest one every week.
