But as those opponents strategize their response, it is vital that they see the important truth that there is no going back to the status quo ante. President Trump and Elon Musk really have altered the structure of things. They’ve taken steps that cannot be so easily reversed. If American constitutional democracy is a game, then they’ve flipped the board with the aim of using the same pieces to play a new game with their own boutique rules.
And so the president’s opponents, whoever they are, cannot expect a return to the Constitution as it was. Whatever comes next, should the country weather this attempted hijacking, will need to be a fundamental rethinking of what this system is and what we want out of it.

Is very true and libs need to understand that. Decorum is broken.
Decorum has been broken since Montana’s congress kicked out an elected transgender woman under the guise of decorum.
Or when bush declared war under false pretenses. Or when reagan ratfucked Carter out of an end to the Iranian hostage crisis. Or when MLK Jr. Was assassinated. Or countless other examples of rightwing terrorism. “Decorum” has only ever been a means to silence progressive voices.
Honestly, this authoritarian takeover of the US government is the biggest thing happening in most of our life times so far. Shocked that this is not dominating news all over the world. I’m not even American.
It’s not dominating the news because the news is owned by the oligarchs who will benefit from this.
