So I knew about RFK’s anti vaccine / raw milk stance, I didn’t know this part though

Kennedy has also expressed skepticism about widely accepted infectious disease science, questioning whether germs cause disease and whether HIV causes AIDS.

Yeah he’s also cast aspersions on the Polio vaccine. When that vaccine was first announced on the news, people on NY were out in the streets celebrating. Work basically stopped for the day. Practically everyone knew someone who had died of Polio.

It was one of the greatest medical breakthroughs of the modern era. But RFK thinks he knows better.

If he has any doubts about HIV causing AIDS, he should test it on himself then. I mean if he says it doesn’t do it, why not?

Scratch a denialist of one type, and you soon find they contain multitudes of denialist bullshit. That’s been my experience, anyway.

Ask him about the Holocaust, evolution, and the moon landing, I say…seems he is already known as a vaccine denialist, an HIV denialist and a germ theory denialist.

Canada needs to close our border to the USA. At this point I’m all for the tarrifs if it means our country completly detaches itself from that sinking ship

Hmm in only there was a culture of getting organised as an union.

Maybe the people in the US will find some strength of conviction in this mess

Many positions in federal service are banned from joining unions—most of the higher scale / subject matter expert and “white color” roles.

These were doctors and epidemiologists, and were also in a special 2 year program, so they wouldn’t have had the standard protections of competitive service, and might also have been excluded from union membership.

Worth noting that aside from some lawsuit exposure, fed unions are not allowed, by law, to strike. (Reagan terminated thousands of air traffic controllers when they struck and replaced them with scab labor as an example) And the current admin doesn’t seem to scared of laws or lawsuits at the moment. (Hopefully they’re wrong in that confidence, but who knows)

I would join a union in a heartbeat, but my position is barred from it.

Yep, for sure. The tradeoff was supposed to be the higher protections that come with competitive service positions, but those protections are being ignored or illegally removed week by week, so yeah at this point anyone should be allowed to join the union.

But to be honest? Its looking more and more like the admin is going to break binding union agreements as well so maybe it’s all just fucked.

The shit we’re going through to today is what happens when striking workers don’t break the scabs’ kneecaps, “legal” or not.

No, voters seem to approve of all this so far. Polls are positive. Swing voter focus groups like the gutting and are not concerned.

TBH the US government needed to be turned on its head, and that positive fantasy is being sold to the public as it’s reorganized to protect billionaires.

So… TBH, unless there’s some kind of social media revolution overnight, I would probably write us off :(

they aren’t swing voters anymore, they’ve been swindled and lied to and they ate it right up. might as well sign 'em up for a redcap of the month club membership.

I really don’t understand the billionaires. From a purely pragmatic standpoint, having an intact government is useful. People not going hungry or stressing the medical system, gives a regime credibility. Without that shield of satisfaction, the rulers of a government are doomed to die at the hands of their subjects.

What is there to gain from all of this?

That would be to nice for this timeline. More likely that half the country will get it in the next 5 years and tens of thousands of babies and pregnant women will die. That fits more with what the writers seem to like.

Finally, he’s doing something to lower the price of eggs. The long national nightmare is over. Now we can just eat flu eggs for cheap. Problem solved, permanently for some people.

Because his solution for something getting reported on more and more is to write less reports

It’s like when a video game has a character with a shitty pickrate cause their kit is no fun and they make an event and tie a bunch of content to them instead of making them fun. Later they’re like look! You liked so and so all along! Oblivious to the fact they fudged their own damn numbers
