The shutdown would end tomorrow if Republicans were 10% less cruel. That’s really all the Democratic demand comes down to.
On the one hand, it’s more of the same establishment Dem strategy of spending a lot of effort to get very little. From a political perspective, though, I can see the appeal here. Dems aren’t asking for much. Just be slightly less cruel. It’s an easy sell to the American people that Republicans would have to compromise very little, and therefore continuing the shutdown is on them.
