Scattered LAPSUS$ Hunters—one of the latest amalgamations of typically young, reckless, and English-speaking hackers—posted the apparent phone numbers and addresses of hundreds of government officials, including nearly 700 from DHS.
This isn’t even surprising. The company/agency that does the background check on our government got hit a couple of years ago. When they do a background check, they collect info on your immediate family, a bunch of tangentials like landlords, neighbors, and members of organizations that you belong to, which means they lost millions of folks’ personal information. Between that and the credit agency hack, I’d bet you could simply buy most of the records somewhere. Sadly, the recent wave of ice hires would probably be the least likely to be available.
If you ever forget your SSN or drivers license, you can simply find it on google at this point.
