Nobody else was going to win the primary. When Biden finally stepped out, bringing in some new candidate that a lot of people hadn’t even heard of would have been even worse. That whole episode in Democratic politics was a shitshow, but none of the blame for it lies with Newsom or Pritzker or any governor.
