How hilarious would it be if that wasn’t the murder weapon and the shooter planted it ahead of time as a distraction.
Considering the photos from the stairwell don’t show him with a gun, that’s an acceptable theory.

I’ll be honest, I’ve never disassembled a Mauser, but I can say, just the wood furniture alone on my Remington 721 .30-06 would not fit in a backpack.
Maybe the specific model he used is different? I dunno. My mares’s leg would fit in a backpack, but not a long rifle.
I’m also curious about how long it takes to pull it down to backpack size.
And the way they were talking about it being found, no mention of the backpack, why would he take the rifle (parts) out of the backpack and leave them in the woods if they were already hidden in a backpack? Why not just … keep walking with a backpack?
