Actually, a violent riot / attempted revolution would not have made things any better. Would’ve lead to a much worse crackdown. Much more deaths.

This is not the Ukraine situation… Ukraine has a military built up… Hong Kong does not have it’s own military.
This isn’t Taiwan… Taiwan has its own military, and the PLA never stepped foot on Taiwan; in contrast, the PLA is already inside Hong Kong… Hong Kong government is already controlled by Beijing… (it’s called a devolved government)
Mainlanders already have low sympathy towards Hong Kongers, violence only promotes anti-HongKong sentinments amongst Mainlanders

I think they made the situation worse. The original protests was over an extradition bill, which they eventually agreed to drop. But then the demands kept getting higher and higher to the point it became separatism. I think they shot themselves in their own foot if they seriously thought China would allow separatism to happen
Bowing down wouldn’t have helped either. CCP doctrine is basically “well you had your fun but now it’s over”
