my punctuation does not have to be perfect for the ideas to be understood, language, grammar, word use, and communication is as varied as the human experience, and obsessive pedantic emphasis on arbitrary rules serves hierarchy more than the free exchange of information. seems like more people understand this concept than dont as i have more upvotes than both of the obtuse grammar priss mounds. Also grades are not indicative of intelligence, in fact there are all kinds of intelligence that cant be formally measured.
It doesn’t have to be perfect, but that doesn’t mean you should go full Saramago. Punctuation can really help the reader organize and process what you are saying. I read your entire first comment but I retained absolutely nothing because it just kept going and going and going. There’s a big difference between grammatical pedantry and just wanting to understand what someone is saying.
if someone wants to understand what im saying they can communicate that to me by asking directly, i type many different ways on many differwnt formats and in my everyday life with the people i talk to regularly, i have no issues whatsoever, no one cares about my use of commas and run on sentences, misspelling, or punctuation, and if they did, they would ask me to clarify what im saying in a straight forward manner, and this includes most random people in piefed communities i engage with. i actually have not encountered substanceless pedantry since i left reddit. its obvious the trolls didnt care about what i was saying, and you dont seem to care either. i have no idea what saramago is and im not asking anyone for gramar advice and dont care how i seem to random people not trying understand me in the first place. English is a living language with a wide varieties of ways its used in writing, typing, and spoken language, people can be open to that fact and speak up about misunderstandings directly, which is what i normally encounter. I don’t need grammar advice and am willing to clarify anything about my original if asked.
Basically, it was a 1 sentence review of their problem and everyone but the person I replied to decided to take it as anything other than internet fuckery.
I don’t think of myself as a troll but when people cast the bait and tackle for themselves, they don’t deserve feeling indignant. They kept feeding and I kept eating. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
however you see yourself, you come off like a not-very-creative troll in this thread. needling people about grammar is maybe the oldest troll bullshit on the internet and it was never funny. There are venues where adhering to a formal style is important (arguably), but a random thread on a forum ain’t it. It’s ok to show up in your linguistic sweatpants sometimes.
That is funny but making fun of someone because of their grammar is just not great. Perhaps English is not this persons first language. Maybe they were not able to get the same education as you because of outside factors.
Not at all. You sound like you’re 14 and trying to be “smart” in front of people who can barely stand to be around you.
You’re not even acknowledging the rebuttal to the argument YOU started, and refuse to see that they conveyed the message they were trying to deliver without your pedantic little rules.
Language is not a set of rules but a living, cognitive phenomenon and a system of communicative patterns acquired through usage.
I didn’t start an argument. I agreed with another user that OP used as little punctuation as possible, and then all you sour bitches came and started harassing me. Go touch grass kid.
i never said you were dumb, i said obtuse (for changing the topic at hand to something arbitrary) pedantic (for emphasizing the arbitrary rules if grammar) and a priss mound (for being unpleasantly self righteous about the aforementioned things) and i will never give a fuck about punctuation in certain situations or the criticisms of random bad faith internet commenters. This has added nothing to the conversation.
im just having genuine human interactions with you, after you in the first place took a jab at me over something arbitrary and unrelated to the original topic, and i think even with great effort to miss the point and deflect the trajectory of conversation, its very apparent how increadibly useless bringing up grammar and punctuation is, as this seems to be an exchange filled with animosity and ill will, going nowhere and accomplishing nothing.
He and the other person that downvoted you failed grammar class.
*He
Fuck! I played myself.
Honestly, your attempt at a joke on this, is really immature.
Punctuation is great and all that, but taking pride in looking down is an ugly look.

This is incredibly overly hostile to someone telling you, correctly, that punching down in comedy fucking sucks.

I fear you are either confused about the tone I took with you or with that particular idiom.
Nope, just calling a jerk a jerk, because this ain’t funny.

What?

are you suggesting that people maybe shouldn’t invest so much of their time and attention on things that ultimately maybe don’t matter all that much?

ACAB, especially the grammar police.
All Commas Are Bad?

Awe, feeling sad that it’s not about you instead?

You made a crass statement that was needlessly rude and people pointed it out and somehow that is harassment towards you? On a public forum?
God forbid anyone disagree with you, apparently we are so cruel to do so.

You’re still arguing, so it’s clearly added something that intrigues you.

Many word make seem mad. The calm please.
how things seem is not always how they are, take american and global politics for example
