Robert Charles Albon claims to have fathered more than 180 children in several countries after advertising his sperm donation services under the name Joe Donor.
Jonathan Furness KC, sitting as a deputy high court judge, took the rare step of naming him as a parent in the family court as a warning to other women considering buying sperm from him.
In a written judgment he said it was in the public interest for Albon to be named, so “vulnerable women who are interested in such services should fully understand the risks of becoming involved with him”.
Albon, an American who lives in the north-east of England, took a same-sex couple to court demanding parental rights, including being named on the birth certificate of the child he had fathered with one of the women.
Rejecting his demands, the judge said Albon’s actions were “wrapped up in a veneer of seeking to protect the welfare of [the child]” but in reality, he was a man who “seeks to control”.
Why the f#@! A sperm donar asking for rights? I’m glad the judge us seeing through all the bull. The transaction is done gtfo.
The guy is a jackass and a narcissist of the highest order, but apparently, the couple didn’t do the donation through the proper available legal channels, which legally doesn’t clarify him as a donor. The article says
Both women supported naming Albon. The non-biological mother said the world needed to know the risks associated with unregulated sperm donation, calling the two-year court battle a “nightmare” and a “horror story”.
The world knows. It’s why most people don’t have unregulated donor children, because this can happen. It’s why you pay the legal fees for private donors or the premium price of fertility clinic spunk. I don’t wanna victim blame here or anything, but getting a random to donate sperm off the internet carries this exact risk and it was a very obvious oversight. What they saved in upfront money came back to haunt them and even broke down their relationship. It’s a very sad story all around.
I am guessing it is more than saving money. Fertility clinics might not legally be able to turn down queer people but it doesn’t mean they don’t do it anyway.
Probably the reason and now we see them victimized for wanting a child.
Legally he may have grounds but seriously hope his balls implode. Cause morally he no ground to stand on. Maybe if this was his first time but not after so many.
Talk about burying the lede by not getting to the same-sex couple for multiple paragraphs, as if fathering a bunch of children with donated sperm was the real crime. Is that even a crime?
I mean should be illegal from a genetic standpoint. The only good part is he did this in several countries. I wouldn’t want to accidently bang my half siblings. Which is actually why I entirely avoid my father race. Dude and his family non stop cheated and impregnated soo Many women. My uncle alone has 20+ kids and used to joke and be proud of the pump and dump. Too afraid to date until college. Thanks pos for ruining my dating pool.
Maybe it should be illegal, but that wasn’t the big problem here. The big problem here is that he was trying to take parental rights away from a queer couple that he donated the sperm to.
Lol just commented that on the side after reading the article hoping for an actual reason for this madness. It is total bs. Like on what grounds after donated unregulated to make 180 other kids he suddenly feels he needs to step in as a “father”.
Should have pulled a reverse uno card: Albon explicitly has no parental rights but now has to pay child support.
